Chess in Schools and Communities

Published on: 16 -03-2024

Chess in Schools & Communities is a national charity that aims to introduce and raise the profile of chess.

The charity aims to make chess available to everyone and it works with communities throughout the UK to ensure that everyone can benefit from the game, providing support such as free chess sets, training in how to teach chess and access to their teaching materials.

Much of the work is in schools but its mission does not stop at the classroom door. There is a growing interest in providing chess in the wider community, such as libraries, prisons and youth justice services and to older people where it can help keep cognitive abilities active and tackle loneliness.

Chess in Schools have arranged a training day on 25 May - more information and booking details are available at:

Tutor Training Day Birmingham, Saturday 25th May 2024 | Chess in Schools and Communities

If people are interested in working for the charity, training places are free.

I attended one of these training days a few months ago and found it very worthwhile and interesting!
